alright, so i put how i thought it would go, not how i wanted it to go. this weekend, it went the way i wanted it to go. first time for everything, right? well i told you guys it was a complete guess. now that i know better, let me try to gitrdone.
1. Texas (1)
2. USC (2)
3. Tennessee (3)
4. Michigan (4)
5. LSU (9)
6. Florida (10)
7. Georgia (11)
8. Iowa (13)
9. Ohio State (12)
10. Virginia Tech (7)
11. Purdue (15)
12. Cal (17)
13. Alabama (19)
14. Georgia Tech (unranked)
15. Florida State (14)
16. Miami (5)
17. Arizona State (18)
18. Notre Dame (unranked)
19. Boston College (21)
20. Auburn (8)
21. Louisville (16)
22. Oregon (24)
23. Virginia (22)
24. NC State? (unranked)
25. Texas Tech? (unranked)
26. Clesmon? (unranked)
dropped from top 25: oklahoma (6), texas a&m (20), boise state (23), pittsburgh (25)
as you can see, it gets to be a toss up down near the bottom, which is where i'm taking it from this week.
i dropped pitt because they got thrashed by previously unranked notre dame in an impressive performance from weis' team, and they were a bubble team already.
boise state went into athens and we know what happened there. uga proved they had no right to set foot in a big-time SEC stadium. get outta here, you paper team.
i expected a&m to handle clemson, and clemson actually pulled out a tough one. that's scary, my friend. but if you can't beat clemson and you're on the bubble, i gotta drop you even if it's fluky.
oklahoma loses to tcu. GOING, GOING, GONE! yayyy kiss them goodbye!
clemson is pushing into the bubble, and they have a chance to do something this year. if they were a little more dominant in their home opener against the ranked team i might have given them a top 25 spot.
texas tech goes here because nobody else can yet. oh and they didn't lose. then again, they haven't played.
i think nc state proved they had something by hanging with va tech the entire game and almost pulling it out. i thought they might do that, and now that they have shown they can play i think they are worthy of a low top 25 spot. va tech didn't play awful in that game, either.
virginia barely moves down, mostly because of oregon's impressive running back. also, after a bad first quarter, they absolutely dominated houston like they should have.
louisville's near loss to kentucky was depressing in that kentucky didn't win. i wish louisville has played a real SEC team. they gotta get dropped a bit. kentucky almost earned some respect, but they fucked it up nicely.
auburn got beat saturday night, plain and simple. there was nothing you could say. they made mistakes because they got outplayed. clearly their young talent wasn't as good as i thought, and the inexperience is showing bigtime.
byu moved the ball a lot on boston college, but they couldn't find the endzone. still, a huge margin of victory with everyone else's losses does help boston college move up.
notre dame beat the dogshit out of pitt. ok, pitt isn't a great team, but they are decent. and notre dame just straight up handled them. the pats' style offense weis is introducing seems to be working, and nd got a little boost of confidence going into the big house next weekend. good luck hanging with michigan's offense, though.
arizona state stomps temple. yawn. or should i say, hoot? lucky other people looked shitty in their real games.
miami played a mistake-riddled game against fsu and even lost. wow. bad special teams, inconsistent qb. he seemed to get better as the game went on, but i wasn't impressed other than a few throws. miami has speed, but they can't make as many mistakes as they did against fsu.
what can i say, fsu didn't look much better. they didn't even score after the first quarter, and they scored off miami mistakes. fsu couldn't score when they started first and goal from the 1 yard line. jesus.
georgia tech was a bright spot this weekend. ball actually made good decisions, gailey only called a few bad plays, and they didn't fuck up. the defense got good pressure and forced bad throws, the o-line held. i mean, wow. but, there's a second time for everything. now don't choke in week 2 against unc (remember 2 years ago...the blown win against fsu then the complete meltdown against clemson. well i don't forget) anyway, play like that all year and #14 is about right, it looked much better than fsu or miami.
alabama handled a sorry school, and with so many mistakes in the top half of the rankings, they get a big boost.
same story with cal.
hell purdue doesn't even need to play to be moving up in the world.
va tech shouldn't have struggled that much with nc state, so i dropped them a little.
ohio state is another beneficiary ..like cal and purdoo.
iowa...man this is becoming pretty redundant
i was almost impressed with how uga played, then again boise state's defense sucks. with their qb throwing it to uga's defense, they really should've scored about 100. shockley isn't gonna have trouble finding receivers in that weak defense either, don't think he's a passing qb yet. run him more, trust me. it'll work.
florida had a few mistakes, but overall the new offense seemed to be working the kinks out, and leak is adjusting well. i can't wait to see it against a tough team. they play tennessee in two weeks. oo
lsu moves up with choklahoma, auburn, miami, etc moving out. not past michigan because they aren't exactly in an awesome situation right now.
michigan didn't have a really tough time against northern ill. but who cares. just leave them there and see how they handle notre dame.
tennessee had uab 17-3 most of the game. they just got bored. eventually their defense sealed the deal though. they won't play as lethargic against a good team.
fuck usc. i wish hawaii had won.
texas didn't really play an interesting game either. whatever.
till next week, kids
